Mid-Season Inspection
Inspect the system to ensure all is operating efficiently and optimally
- Leak check: Identify and address any backflow prevention device or system leaks
- Zone testing: Run individual tests for each zone
- Head-to-head coverage: Ensure uniform coverage, making adjustments as needed
- Visual assessment: Address any visible issues
- Controller programming: Reprogram the controller for seasonal conditions if necessary
Backflow Testing
Test the backflow prevention device for safety and compliance.
Backflow testing is designed to ensure that non-potable water does not flow into the potable water system. Most Northern Virginia water authorities require a prevention device on your source line and annual testing of the device by a licensed, certified professional to ensure it’s in working order and keeping your water supply safe.
The inspection test report will be submitted to the county and shared with the customer.
Winterization
Properly close the irrigation system prior to the first frost to help maintain the life of the system
- Water shutoff: Turn off main water supply to the system
- System clearing: Remove the blowout cap and blow out 85%-95% of all water from the irrigation lines using a high-volume air compressor
- Backflow prevention device: Drain and disconnect the backflow prevention device if possible
- Repairs: Note any repairs or improvements needed during the upcoming spring activation
Carney Irrigation & Lighting is not responsible for the water main between the backflow prevention device and the shut-off valve as there is no blow-out point in between.
